Course Description
This course is designed for Naval Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) units that demand the ultimate success in their missions by incorporating assets that can make the difference between "GO" or "NO GO" mission criteria. The class also builds higher confidence levels among the boarding team members knowing that someone else is employed to cover their insertion, objective, and extraction.

DM's are not only Precision Marksman during critical stress incidents, they are also the eyes and ears of the mission commander. Providing constant real-time intel greatly enhances the MIO commander's decision making process.

During the scheduled days of training, the focus is on live fire drills and live fire, scenario-based training. The course covers:

  • Employment of the Designated Marksman during VBSS and SRF A/B operations
  • Different environmental effects on the weapon system
  • Combat mindset of the sniper
  • Weapons familiarization
  • Weapons BZO
  • Shooting fundamentals
  • Effective shooting positions
  • Range estimation
  • Shooter/observer dialect
  • Reflexive firing
  • Long/short range shooting from various environments, to include pier side, aerial and waterborne shooting platforms

The training block is usually 4 days. A fifth day can be added if the unit has access to water craft or helicopters for live fire moving platform operations.
